I've received a lot of questions about a product called Miracle Noodles, mostly from readers wondering if the noodles are any good, what they taste like, and if they really have zero calories and no carbs.
Well, my review is in: The noodles are good, and they really have zero calories and zero carbs! It’s a Miracle! And I know what you’re thinking…"Hey Lisa, just a minute there…I thought that even the Bermuda grass in my front yard had calories." (yes, but I have never considered eating it!) How is it possible that the Miracle Noodles have 0 calories?
Well, I went over to America’s Largest Online Retailer and did a search for this miracle food. And of course, they had them in stock!
They had a HUGE variety of noodles as well as other products. The company says they have 3 best sellers: Angel Hair, Rice, and Fettuccini. I decided to try all 3, and guess what…They’re GREAT! I tried them in a few recipes, a soup recipe, Italian pasta and American spaghetti, and I admit, I wasn’t expecting much, but was I ever surprised! They have a great texture, they fill you up, and I just love them.
But please realize, they don’t taste like wheat noodles or grain pasta, but they are one heck of a lot better than rice cakes! They actually have no or at least very little taste at all. They are made out of konjac root, the source for glucomannan which is a natural fiber supplement that many nutritional supplement companies use. It is not really a new food item, as it has been used in Asia to form a traditionally healthy diet. But for folks here in the US, it is new to us.
What is new about Miracle Noodles is turning it into the shape of traditional noodles and pasta, as a zero calorie replacement food. So they look like pasta, have a texture very similar to pasta, but without the calories. The bonus feature is that it has zero carbohydrates as well!
Some have told me that the lack of taste is a problem for them, so if you are expecting the noodles to taste like mammas homemade spaghetti noodles, you may be disappointed. But you have to realize that in the Miracle Noodle recipe, the sauce and seasonings must carry the taste. The Miracle Noodles take the place of a higher calorie counterpart.
So actually, the Miracle Noodles are a great strategy for dieters. If you eat the Miracle Noodles made from glucomannan, it causes you to feel full way before you have eaten very many calories. So your stomach is telling your brain that you have just eaten a huge meal, but your calorie intake is dramatically reduced, when compared to a traditional spaghetti dinner or pasta meal. Their product label says:
