Wired CCTV cameras are more challenging to install because they tend to be in plain view and they can take away the element of surprise, but they normally perform better than wireless ones as better footage is assured. Wireless ones are more convenient to install and can be seen even if you are away from home but the signal might be a hindrance as well as someone else being able to intercept the signal. But in most cases these can be password protected.
In any case, all the equipment that you need is usually included in CCTV packages including the CCTV camera, wires, a DVR, a power supply depending on the number of cameras you ordered, wires and cables. Now all you have to do is install your cameras properly for the utmost results. There is no need to worry because installing camera systems is pretty straightforward. Please note that this is a guide for wired cameras.
First consider where you want to install all the cameras with the use of a map. Make sure that the area you are planning to put under surveillance is completely covered. Cover all areas that can be a point of entry such as outside doors, the entrance to the garage and windows. Try not mounting it where it can easily be reached or vandalized. When you are satisfied, run the cables depending on how many cameras you plan to install. It is best to label each one so in the event that one of them stops working, you will have an easier time where the cable is running. It is also best to run the cables where they cannot be tampered with such as the basement and attic. Also consider where it is easier to drill holes. While doing this, it is best to draw a map of where you have laid all the wires for future reference. Start from the back of the DVR going to where you are installing the camera. In this way, you will have a better gauge if the cables reach it or not.
Once you are done with this, mount the camera enclosures. Leave some room for the camera to be able to move left and right, up and down so you can be assured you can control the camera view exactly where you want it to reach. Camera features usually include pan, tilt and zoom. Also make sure that you are drilling on a sturdy surface. Insert the appropriate cables through the holes when you are done.
Now it is time to install the cameras. Adjust the lens first and ensure that the protective covers are secured and screw them together. Make sure that the lens cable is entwined loosely over the lens and connect it where it is supposed to go at the back of the camera. Do this for every camera you have and turn the lens switch to video. Mount the camera into the enclosures. Now connect all appropriate cables to the camera.
Connect all the appropriate wires at the back of the DVR. Plug each cable where it is supposed to go to. Now connect the power cable to the power supply as well as the monitor. Power them on. Now once powered on the DVR will most likely prompt you to tweak some settings. It is the easiest part of all since most use an intuitive and user friendly interface and your done.
By this time, you should have successfully installed your cameras and should be able to be viewing footage from each CCTV camera. Most CCTV packages are almost always alike so this installation guide should be similar for every variety out there. If you are experiencing any trouble in installing CCTV cameras, it is probably best to hire a technician who can do this for you. It might also be more convenient. But really, the best thing about any do it yourself project is the sense of fulfilment you get when you have actually succeeded that never fails to paste a wide smile on your face for a few days. And that smile is also for peace of mind knowing that you and your family can have restful sleeps while being secure and protected.
