Ramp RFID are pleased to announce that we have entered into a contract with Sydney Ports Corporation, as part of their Operational Performance Management (OPM) program at Port Botany, to implement a fully managed RFID truck tracking solution to record movements of trucks within the Port Botany precinct. Ramp was the successful vendor after a vigorous tender process.

The solution will incorporate Ramp’s innovative, robust and scalable IQ Mesh distributed data capture approach and Identec Solutions award winning beacons tags and RFID readers. The project will be implemented in 2011.

NEW TRUCK TRACKING SYSTEM UNDERWAY AT PORT BOTANY

Work is underway on the implementation of a truck tracking system for the second quarter of 2011, as part of the Port Botany Landside Improvement Strategy (PBLIS), Sydney PortsChief Executive Officer Grant Gilfillan announced today.

Mr Gilfillan said the new system will allow Sydney Ports to independently measure and analyse actual truck movements as they progress through the Port Botany container terminals from arrival in the Port precinct to departure from the stevedore’s exit gate.

"The system is a key component of the operational performance framework governing the service levels of both transport carriers and stevedores at Port Botany," Mr Gilfillan explained. The PBLIS operational performance framework, with associated industry performance financial penalties for failure to meet mandated performance standards, comes into effect from today, 28 February 2011.

Sydney Ports is seeking carrier registration as part of the PBLIS program and will issue the truck tracking tags for installing in carrier’s trucks over the next month. "Tags will be fitted to trucks servicing the port and a Radio Frequency Identification Device(RFID) will record their arrival at the Port precinct, progress to the stevedore entry gate, the length of time it takes for stevedores to service the carrier and departs the exit gate.

"Importantly, when the truck tracking is operational, the addition of time spent waiting to enter a stevedore terminal to the overall turn round time will ensure stevedores are held accountable for any queues outside their terminals, significantly reducing congestion at the Port."

Mr Gilfillan said truck-tracking "capture points" are being installed across the port precinct at Penrhyn Road, Friendship Road and Simblist Road.

"This crucial landside information we receive will deliver greater transparency, verifying the operational performance of both transport carriers and stevedores and enable Sydney Ports to refine and set ongoing operational performance standards at the Port," Mr Gilfillan said.

RAMP Holdings Pty Ltd, a leading technology solutions integrator, has been awarded the contract to provide the truck tracking system for Port Botany.
