Bath lifts are chairs used in bathrooms especially by the elderly and disabled to help them maintain independence while taking a bath. They fit perfectly well into bath tubs such that they do not need to be drilled into place. The perfect fit is thanks to their compact design which also that ensures that they offer maximum legroom in the tub.
Using a bath lift makes bathing a pleasure due to their ability to lower the operator slowly into the warm bath and then lift them up to the tub level when they are done. These chairs are very safe and simple to operate. One of their safety features is the ability to prevent the lift from lowering the operator into the bath if there isn’t enough charge in the hand controller to lift them back up and out.
Battery operated bath lifts have a hand controller unit that is helpful in ensuring that pressing the up and down buttons is easy. There should be no problem in pressing these buttons even if the controller unit is wet or if the operator’s hands and fingers have less dexterity. Another important safety aspect of these bath lifts is that the user doesn’t have to worry about getting stuck in the bath tub. Most battery operated bath lifts have built in safety controls so the user is only lowered to level that the battery has enough power to bring the user back to the top. These batteries are fixed in the hand controller and they are recharged by simply unplugging the hand controller from the lift and then plugging it into the recharging cable for a few hours.
Some of the bath lifts have adjustable backs that help the users to lie down while taking a bath instead of sitting up straight. Though they cannot recline completely into a horizontal position, they are able to put the user in a comfortable position with most of the upper body submerged in the water.
These lifts have become a bathing solution by providing independence, safety, reliability and quality to the disabled and the elderly. Bath lifts come in a variety of models that a user can choose from. The most common bath lifts are battery operated, however water powered, and manual lifts are also available. New to the market in the past year is a bathing cushion with is an inflatable bath lift. A number of accessories can be purchased to customize the bath lifts for specific use.
