When a household is getting ready to have a home interior painted by professionals, there are a number of things that they can do to prepare for the project in advance. The idea is to make sure that the area is ready for painting and that there is plenty of room for the painting contractors to work. The home improvement project may be inconvenient for the household for a few days, but in the long run, the home will look more beautiful and show less wear. Here are some things that the residents can do to make things go more smoothly and efficiently.
Clean The Interior
Depending on how many rooms are being painted and how much of the interior will be painted, at least some of the house must be cleaned up before beginning a painting project. The rooms that will be painted should be clear of clothes and junk on the floor. Anything of value should be put away or removed to avoid paint damage or the items getting lost. The last thing anyone wants is to find a family heirloom dotted with paint spray. The walls should be free of cobwebs and dirt.
Move Furniture
Accessibility to the walls that are being painted is also important. Before the final contract is signed, the consumer should do a walk-through with the painting contractor to confirm which rooms will be painted what colors and how the room should be prepared before work an begin. This includes who is responsible for moving heavy furniture, such a couches, dressers and beds. In some cases, the painters may be able to work around furniture if it is pushed a few feet away from the walls. Other items to move or remove include ceiling fixtures, wall art and light switches. If the residents cannot move the items, the painters may be able to do it for them or work around it.
Rearrange Schedule
During a painting project, it will not be business as usual. The home will smell of fresh paint, items will not be where they belong, and some rooms will be off-limits until they are complete. Before the contractors arrive, have a back-up plan in place on what routes to take while travelling throughout the home so as not to disturb the workers or risk any types of incidents or accidents. Designate another room for displaced activities. For example, if the den is off-limits, move the television into the living room instead and watch it there.
Changes
While some may say that change is always good, a reliable painting contractor may disagree. Once the parameters of a job are determined, changes are not so good. When the painters arrive to perform the job, do not make drastic changes in the scope of the task. For example, paint color choice, which rooms are to be painted and when the tasks can be performed are not things to be changed at the last minute. This will not only hold up the project at that home, but will likely cut into the painting contractor’s schedule for the rest of the week.
