There is a vast variety in wooden beds and metal bed frames available for purchase but finding a suitable bed frame is not as simple as going into a furniture shop and picking the first one that catches your eye. Since it will most likely be the biggest furniture piece within your bedroom it is crucial to give this much thought. It is easier to choose a bed frame first then adding furniture pieces to complement it rather than the other way around. There are factors to consider before purchasing a bed frame that should help you immensely in choosing the right one for you.

Consider the current design of your bedroom first. The design of your bedroom determines if it is best to opt for a wooden or metal bed frame. For instance a wooden bed frame goes best with a bedroom with a rustic design while a metal bed frame fits perfectly into a minimalist designed bedroom. If you already have furniture pieces, it is best to adapt to what you have rather than purchasing new pieces to complement the bed frame.

Use colour coordination according to the design of your bedroom as well. There are three ways to colour coordinate. One is by following a monochromatic scheme in which you choose one colour and use lighter or darker accents for your furniture pieces. Another is by utilizing a related scheme in which you choose colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel. The most dominant colour in your bedroom is the base colour and the ones next to it can be used as accents or highlights for your furniture. The complementary scheme is achieved by choosing colours that are directly opposite of each other on the colour wheel. If colour coordination is very important to you, take this further by employing colour psychology. For instance blue is known to create an aura that is reflective and intellectual while green is a colour associated with a calming and relaxing effect.

Size matters. The size of your room determines how big the bed can be. There are generally four sizes of bed mattresses. A super king sized bed is normally seventy two by seventy eight inches, a king sized bed is sixty by seventy eight inches, a double sized bed is fifty four by seventy five inches and a singles sized bed is thirty six by seventy five inches. If you already have mattresses it is more practical to purchase a bed frame of the same size rather than purchasing a new bed frame and new mattress to go with it to cut down on costs. It helps to bring in the mattress into the bedroom to see if you have enough room to move as well as if there is a need to include more furniture pieces if there is too much space left out.

Determine the height of the frame. This matters according to your preference really. There are many things to consider here such as saving space and the furniture pieces that you prefer to use. If there is very little room left to move, it is best to opt for bed frames that have built-in storage such as platform bed frames or bed frames high enough to accommodate some storage bins underneath them. In this case, bed frames larger than your mattress are out of the question. The height of the bed frame needs to be ergonomic in such a way that you do not have to prop lots of pillows under your neck to be able to watch television comfortably. Also consider the height of your ceiling. A tall bed frame in a room with a low ceiling makes it look smaller while a platform bed frame might look very small in a room with a high ceiling.

The last factor to consider is your lifestyle. Any kind of furniture piece only lasts more than its value if it is taken well care of. Metal bed frames are preferred by owners who do not have the time to care for furniture as it requires low maintenance while wooden beds need a little more upkeep to maintain simply by polishing and wiping them often.

There are truly many things to consider in purchasing the perfect bed frame but it all boils down to what you really want and how comfortable you are in it. The factors listed above do not matter if in the end you are not happy with your purchase. Trust your instinct on this.
