Prom is a formal dance party that is held after or before junior or high school graduation in the United States. This is a very important ceremony for all students. They are excited about planning the party, the prom, and after the prom, which can be memorable and last for a long time in their lives. It is a well recognized formal and complete party with fancy dresses, decorations, limos, sound systems or live bands, etc.
In the modern industrial society, we do not have any formal rites of passage, especially in the United States where many intercultural elements are mingled or separated region by region, ethnics by ethnics, or by socio-economic status by status. Prom can be understood as a form of informal rite of passage conducted by the junior and high school institutions. We may cautiously say that prom is an institutionalized informal public rite of passage in the united culture of the United States.
It is a symbolized event of coming of age at which adolescents have transitional stages from their teens to adulthoods. Most people treat the young after the prom as adults who are enrolling in colleges or having their own jobs. Many countries with different cultures have some form of ceremony whether it is formal or informal, private or public; to make sure the subjects have the full privileges of adulthood with proper responsibilities and duties to the family and to the community.
This is a very enjoyable moment. All participants should enjoy and make many memorable things in that day. Most girls wear fabulous prom dresses, beautiful make-up, with fancy accessories, and pretty Cinderella type shoes. Boys also prepare formal dresses such as tuxedos. The planning of the party is critical. A prom committee or even individual students start preparing the dresses, shoes etc, 2 to 3 months early, so they can manage all of the necessary things promptly and economically.
Most prom parties are held in the schools, but some schools choose nice buildings or hotels. You should check if dinner is provided. If not, eat enough before you go to the party. After the party, most students go to casual restaurants or a friend’s house, but some of them may pursue another wild. You should keep in mind that drinking is not permitted for any minors and to stay away from drugs or wild things that may ruin your amazing night. It should be clean and joyful without any complicated entails.
The party may last 3 to 4 hours. All of your parents are as excited as you are. They always think this is the last big event until marriage, so it can be joyful to them but worrisome as well. If you plan to join them after prom, you should let them know beforehand, and if you are late, do not forget to call them and let them know your location and who’s with you. Please take lots of pictures with your partner and friends.
A prom is a ceremony for the moment you enter into a different world. You should enjoy your last stage of adolescence. If you choose a right partner and prepare well, it will be the best moment of your life.
Enjoy.
