Every household home deserves a spectacular bench top, but have you ever considered bamboo instead of the typical pricey granite or marble?

Between wooden bench tops and marble bench tops there is a common annoyance for both. Marble bench tops, although provide a classy look to a kitchen can be extremely cold, particularly in winter. Wooden bench tops although make a kitchen look cozy and warm can become easily marked and damaged by heat and heated products. However, bamboo bench tops provide the perfect balance between marble and wood. Warm in winter, cool in summer and undamaged by heat, they are the perfect choice for your kitchen.

Bamboo bench tops are highly cost effective, but that doesn’t mean quality is substituted. Brighten up any dull kitchen with this natural product and create a spectacular looking kitchen. The nodes on the bamboo plank accentuate the bamboo stalk and will add a beautiful natural glow to your kitchen.

Besides the aesthetical benefits, bamboo bench tops are extremely practical, durable and strong. Save money on coasters and mats, as bamboo bench tops are able to withstand heat. Move any hot pan or directly from your stove to your bamboo bench top without leaving a single mark. As the actual bamboo plant is not affected by heat or cold; neither is its product. Even areas that experience constant water exposure such as the sink will not harm your bench top. Although not completely proof, bamboo bench tops are fairly able to withstand scratching as well.

As our bench tops come in solid raw bamboo planks to prevent damage via transport, simply seal with any clear varnish found in any hardware store. Once sealed if there is a large build up of scratches over time simply sand it down and re-varnish for a brand new looking bench top.

Our bench tops are also safe from warping and shrinking and would make a cost effective, stunning but practical edition to your kitchen.

I don't know if this will help anyone but the kitchen bench tops in my previous house were made from marine plywood and varnished with marine varnish. They looked great and wore very well.

we have been given mixed info about the best thing to stain a bamboo benchtop with.. we have been told to use grapeseed oil as this is food safe rather than a varnish. would this still be water safe or not? and will only a varnish do the job and if so - what about food safety?? many thanks!

Hi Noleen, Again I am extremely sorry for the late reply. Bamboo bench tops definitely need to be varnished, we would recommend an oil based varnish because it'd protect the benchtop longer than a water based one. It is difficult to say how long it'd last without varnish, as any spills would seep into the bamboo and stain it. Any more questions feel free to email me on sales@bambooconnection.com.au. Good luck!

Hi - an interested potential coustomer who is investigating the use of bamboo in my new kitchen. I am wondering - does it have to be varnished? Is there an oil that I might use instead of varnish? How does bamboo wear if left in its natural state?

Hi Louise, Apologies for the late reply. In terms of strength I've heard 2 pack is very good so I'm not sure of a stronger varnish. For my house personally, the varnish has lasted for about 5 years now without any serious scratches. I just used a oil-based high gloss/semi gloss varnish purchased from Bunnings. I'll find the brand name and let you know. :)

Hi we just got a bamboo benchtop in a coffee colour and it looks amazing. The cabinet maker coated it in "2 pack" and we have noticed a few little scratches already... (just a normal mealtime with 4 kids, a baby and a toddler with a set of car keys!)Is there a better varnish we could have used? We are not too precious about normal wear and tear, but would like too keep it looking as good as possible as it really is beautiful....cheers
