There are many different types of spa filters available for swimming pools, spas and hot tubs. The most important part for owners is to make sure that they use compatible filters. The best way to do this is to keep the owner’s manual handy and to know what type of pool or spa it is. The year and manufacturer are especially important in finding compatible pool and spa filters after several seasons. The filter packaging recommends the correct size and type.
Replacement
Water filters are one of the most important parts of having a swimming pool or spa. Keeping the water clean and safe for people to enjoy is critical in ownership. It is not a difficult process, but it needs periodic attention. Because pools and tubs tend to sit outside in the fresh air, they often catch debris from nearby trees, gardens and daily activities. Removing this debris is part of the filter’s job. Another part of the filter’s job is removing small particles that are barely visible or are even microscopic. When left unchecked, they can create health hazards, foul smells and unappealing objects floating in the water. Cleaning and replacing the filter regularly keeps all of these things in check.
Technology
As technology improves over time, the quality of filtration systems improves as well. The old days of having a single layer filter are over. Single layer filtration removes some material from the water, but it must be cleaned and/or changed frequently when it becomes full or loses its effectiveness. Some filters are very stringent in forcing water through a very small area for cleaning, which makes it difficult for the water to circulate properly. This can result in burst pipes, broken pumps and damaged filters. Filters that allow water to flow freely while trapping unwanted material work best and last the longest simply due to mechanics.
Dual Filtering Systems
Dual filtering systems are now available that combine the best of both worlds. Using two types of filters keeps the water flow steady while trapping even the most microscopic matter. Dual core filters fit the area snugly and have an inner and outer filtering area. The filter is made of two different types of media. It lasts longer than many of the less recent innovations. The addition of anti-microbial fabric improves the cleanliness factor, neutralizing bacteria that could otherwise result in mold, algae and unsanitary organisms. The outer core collects the larger particles, allowing the inner core to collect the smaller particles. The inner core does not get clogged, and the outer core does its job to prevent unwanted visible objects floating throughout the pool, hot tub or spa.
