Preparing a hot tub in preparation for spring requires a few important steps that should not be skipped. If the most damage to a hot tub is done by an improper winterization, an improper spring opening is also risky.
Remove the cover
Pay special attention to the spa cover when putting it on and taking it off. In order to last longer, it needs to be respected. Remove the spa cover and drain the water that is in the tubes. Clean it and protect it with a special spray. If the cover is made with a foam, air out the foam. If it smells of mildew, spray it with a disinfectant.
Drain the water
Use the spa pump to drain the water out if the spa is filled with water.
Remove rubber plugs that might cover the jets. Inspect the spa shell for any cracks. If any water got into the spa and froze inside, there might be splits or cracks. Both are signs of serious damage.
Clean
The hot tub should be thoroughly cleaned with a spa acrylic cleaner and a little scrubbing, too. Rinse it well to make sure all of the chemicals are gone. Wash the spa filters.
Wax
Wax the shell with an acrylic spa wax. Rub it in to a shine using soft cotton rags that do not shed.
Connect the spa pack
The screw or connections in the spa pack should be re-connected and tightened prior to filling the spa with water. Also, verify any connections. If it smells of gas, it is a good idea to seek the help of a spa professional or to call the gas company.
Fill the hot tub
Fill the hot tub with fresh water. Place the hose in such a way that the water runs across the hot tub filters first. This way, all the lines will be filled and the bubbles will not be in the way of priming the pump. Be attentive to any leak. They must be repaired right away. Pay close attention to the joints and pump. Make sure the heater is turned off before starting on the tub. Check that the electrical system and the circuit breaker in the house work well before powering up the tub. Verify that the pipes are functioning properly. It is a good idea to try all of the settings.
If everything works properly, put the heater on.
Chemicalize
Start the spa and add the hot tub chemicals. Balance the pH, then put in the sanitizer.
Follow these simple instructions in order to open the spa for spring, but remember, a good spring season starts with a professional winterization.
