If you are one of the unfortunate people who's Xbox 360 has given up and has started to display the red ring of death then keep reading. There are numerous causes for this error all with their different fixes. In this article though we will discover the three main ways to fix three red lights.
-
First of all is the obvious choice, Microsoft. If your console is still within its warranty period then this may be the right option for you as you will not have to pay the $150 or more that they will charge. However you will still be without your console for around six weeks while they carry out the repair. I have heard of a few cases where people have sent off their consoles and then had them returned only to have the same problem a month later. If that doesn't sound like a viable option for you then keep reading as I tell you of two more ways to fix the red ring of death.

The next option to fix the rrod is called the towel trick although I don't recommend it. The reason for the three red light error is normally that some of the solder on the motherboard gets overheated and becomes brittle and will eventually break. What the towel trick does is heat your console up above normal levels in an attempt to slightly melt the broken solder and rejoin the circuits, resulting in a repaired console
The towel trick is when you wrap your console in a towel and either switch it on, or put it in a low oven to get it hot. While this may fix your console in the short run the issue will rear its ugly head again and you will be in the same position. This can be very dangerous for your console so I would not even attempt it.
- The final, and in my opinion, best method to fix the Xbox 360 red ring of death has to be fix it yourself. Yes you read right DIY. The actual repair required is really straight forward once you have an understanding of Xbox repair. If like me though you don't so what I did was I got my hands on a 3 red light fix guide from the Internet. It was written by a guy called James Dean and with his help thousands of people have managed to fix their own Xbox 360, in the same day as the error occurred. The guide itself is really easy to follow and there are great videos to make the whole process that much easier.
Repairing it yourself is the method I recommend to my mates when they have had this issue. I saved myself over a $100 doing it this way which I spent on the latest call of duty and need for speed games. I hope now you know how to fix the red ring of death on your Xbox 360.
