Is there anything more rewarding that owning and taking care of a horse? If there is, I haven’t found it yet. I’ve heard some people question my enthusiasm for horse care. They complain that keeping your horse healthy is expensive and that stable maintenance isn’t easy. Well, seldom things in life are easy, especially the things that make us happy. The problem is few people out there realize how to care for a horse and if they do, they only understand the bare minimum of equine management.
Think about all the items you’ll need. The list of necessities seems like it never ends with items like food, shelter, horse tack supply products and miscellaneous items like horse fly sheets. However if you want to make sure your horse is happy and healthy, you’ll need everything single piece. The proper equine supplies will guarantee your horse is healthy, safe and comfortable.
Let’s start with just the tack. There is a variety of different tack supplies and pieces of equipment choices that it is easily to become confused as to what items are necessities and what items are optional. I recommend buying some saddle blankets as a start since they are pretty important. Saddle blankets keep the animal warm, while also shielding them from the heat of the sun and insects and fly bites. I also like blankets because they provide the horses with improved blood circulation.
When shopping for horse blankets to keep in your stable, look for one which is combination of different characteristics. Get a blanket that is durable, breathable, water proof, and made from the best quality of material. However, you do want to think about the weight of the blanket and what your local weather conditions are where you live before making a decision on a suitable stable blanket.
The next important item to acquire is fencing. The world outside the stable can be a dangerous place for a horse. From unwanted predators to poisonous plants, the last thing you want is your horse roaming around unsupervised. First, understand there are basically three fences you would use for a horse. These are electric, rail horse and wire mesh. Each type of fence is specifically designed for an intended purpose. Consult with an expert on which type would be most suitable for your property.
Many horse owners underestimate the helpfulness of tack trunks and racks. They are, in my opinion, the most important stable supplies to own. These organization tools allow you to safely store all your tools and equipment without losing or misplacing anything.
