French doors originally termed as ‘casement doors’ are a popular choice these days for residential purpose. Generally two types of French doors are used depending on the requirement- Exterior French door and Interior French door. Exterior French door is more opted out of the two. People who love contemporary lifestyle use an exterior French door which opens up into the garden or patio. The full pane of glass provides the maximum possible light and a good view of the garden from inside the room. They can also be thrown wide open giving the impression that the room and the garden are a single space.
French doors are quite a necessity to give a nice finishing touch to any home; no home is quite complete without a set of exterior French doors to provide light, the impression of space and, in the winter months, to keep the warmth inside where it belongs. If you have the option of doing so, consider installing exterior French doors – you will never look back.
The second one which is less opted is the interior French door. Although its ranks high in style but unlike exterior French doors, these are installed where there is a double-width doorway, and it is interesting to compare them with bi-fold doors in that respect. While bi-fold doors are fixed only at one side of the door and comprise one unit that hinges in the middle, interior French doors have two separate wings, each hinged on its respective door-jamb and meeting in the middle. Like bi-fold doors though, one wing of the French doors can be locked so as to only leave half of the doorway free until such time as you wish to open up the space between rooms by swinging open both wings – perhaps for special occasions, or when cleaning.
The reason for immense popularity of French doors in modern houses is the fact that it is very stylish and can be used in different manners. Lastly, glass-paned French doors keep your living space looking and feeling airy and well-lit.
