Structure wise the Blackberry Curve 3G is similar to the other members of this series; stylish and compact, it weighs less than other Blackberry Curve models. The screen is clear with a decent contrast and crispiness of a 320 x 240 pixel display. The QWERTY keyboard which has become synonymous with Blackberry smartphones sits firmly and does not wobble. The optical trackpad is raised a bit and more space has been allotted to the Menu, Call, Back and End keys thereby removing any chances of error when hitting the desired buttons. Another commendable feature is the inclusion of the media keys like play/pause/mute and back and forward on top of the phone.
The call quality is superb; most calls are loud and clear but rare complaints of a hollow sound have been reported by some users. The Blackberry Curve 3G made its debut with the operating system OS 5 and could be upgraded to the Blackberry OS 6. With OS 6 it was at the receiving end of a dynamic home screen, a Webkit browser and features like Universal Search and notifications bar. E-mail has always been the strong point of Blackberry smartphones and the Curve 3G does not disappoint its users either. Composing, sending and receiving e-mails is a breeze and the preloaded IMs Blackberry Messenger, Yahoo, AIM, GoogleTalk and MSN provide a variety of instant messaging options. Other options include text and multimedia messaging.
The Camera and video quality is just average. Like other members of the Curve family, the Curve 3G comes with a 2 megapixel camera with a flash and auto focus. The photos taken by this phone are just average and the video quality is nothing to write home about.
Wi-Fi and GPS are quite impressive; the GPS in collaboration with Blackberry Maps finds locations accurately and pretty quickly. Other features of the Blackberry Curve 3G are voice dialing, conference calling, speed dialing, speaker phone, vibration mode and Bluetooth. The "organizer" tool contains a memo pad, address book, calendar and task list so that you can remain organized. You can check your schedules, compose short memos and check your address book for contacts. Also included in the Curve 9300 is a documents viewer for Microsoft Office, PDF Documents and WordPerfect.
The Curve 9300 has 256 MB of internal flash memory and 256 MB built in storage memory along with a 2 GB micro SD card which can be replaced by 32 GB micro SD if you want to expand the memory further. The Curve 9300 gives up to 5.5 hours of talk time on one charge which is sufficient for everyday use. The Curve 9300 will not disappoint you on the media front as well and with expandable memory, there is a lot of room for media files.
Conclusion
Overall the Curve 9300 is a great phone and multimedia device but lacks the ability to take great pics. This device is reasonably priced and fulfills your communication needs very well. E-mailing and texting is quick and convenient but other features like the media player and the camera are rather ordinary. 3G enabled, Wi-Fi and GPS navigator make it more powerful than other cell phone in the same price range. If you have not used a Blackberry phone before, you will love this device.
