There are many ways to create and deliver a home inspection report and home inspectors must find what works best for them and their clients. This article will discuss some of the options home inspectors have for delivering their reports.
Print On-Site
Printing complete reports on-site is a very convenient option. Once the inspector is finished with their inspection, they print the report, hand it to their client, and they are finished. This is the fastest way to get the client a copy of the report. This allows the inspector to leave the site finished with the inspection and eliminates the need do additional work at the office. On-site delivery can separate a home inspector from their competition which can lead to more business.
Another option is to email the finished report. Emailing reports will eliminate paper and also save the inspector on printing costs. Emailing reports is the best option if the inspector wants the opportunity to review and add in any final notes, comments, and pictures back at the office before sending the report to their client. Sending the report in an email is particularly easy if the home inspection software includes a built-in PDF writer. In just seconds the inspector can turn the report into a PDF, email it to the client, and be finished. The client will be able to open the report directly from their email, as well as, print or forward the report to someone else.
Fax/Mail/Hand Deliver
Some traditional options a home inspector has to deliver their completed reports are by fax, mail, or hand delivery. These options aren’t as common because they are not as efficient as some of the other options available.
Burn to CD
Burning the inspection report to a CD is another option. This is great for home inspectors who want to give their client an electronic copy of the report, but also want to hand them something. This is done by turning the report into a PDF and then burning it to a CD. This allows the inspector to physically hand their client something. The client can then insert the CD into their computer where they are able to view, email, or print the report.
Post Online
Another delivery option is to post the completed inspection report online. This allows the client to view the report from their computer. This is a convenient option, but can create extra work for the inspector and the client because usernames and passwords oftentimes must be created and tracked.
Home inspectors have several options for delivering their inspection reports. The inspector must decide which option works best for them and their company. Since the client is the number one priority, it is important for the inspector to choose an option that provides them with the best experience possible.
