Below are some of the important things you should not forget to do to prepare the house before the inspection.

Clean the house. – For sure, it will be much easier for the inspector to inspect the house extensively if it is clean and maintained very well. A clean and tidy house says a lot about how you take care of and manage the house.

Be ready even before the inspection schedule. – It is important that the house is well prepared hours before the scheduled time. Most inspectors come at the house thirty minutes earlier and usually, they start at the external parts of the house.

Give enough workspace. – Make sure that the water heater, air condition unit; furnace and other important items in the house are not being blocked by large furniture, bookshelves, and other large stuffs. Connect the utilities. – Let the utilities remained connected to electricity so it is more convenient for the inspector to turn them on and inspect them. Inspectors also have to check and turn on the dishwasher, water heater, furnaces, stove and other appliances installed at home so make sure that inspectors will not have a hard time operating them. Failing to inspect these items can often result to delays of the closing deal.

Keep the pilot lights ignited. – Switch on the pilot lights for the gas stove, water heater and furnace so they can be inspected faster and easier. If the pilot lights are not lit, inspectors will refuse to open by themselves especially if it is not part of the agreement. This is to avoid accidents or events that are not covered by their responsibility. If there are appliances or items in the house that are left uninspected, the buyer may postpone the day of closing the deal.

Provide access to important areas of the house. – Inspectors also have to inspect the basement, attic and garage so make sure that you leave the keys or keep them open so they can have easy access to the place. Moreover, make the path to the areas clean and open so it is easier for the inspectors to get there are perform the inspection. Clean the whole area and make sure they are well lit.
