2011 has proven to Playa del Carmen real estate buyers that the area’s government is continuing invest heavily in the area. One of the main projects for the downtown area has been the repaving of all downtown roads, helping to add value to the many new options in Playa del Carmen condos for sale in this part of the city.
The work took place primarily in the original town, which is now the south half of downtown. Many of the roads had the same pavement that was originally laid 15 -20 years ago as the community first grew from a tiny fishing village on the beach to a small tourist town at the ferry dock to Cozumel; at this time, Mexico beachfront for sale with appeal to expat buyers first started appearing in the town, and investors, tourists and real estate buyers first began to realize the high potential that Playa del Carmen had.
As the town transformed into one of Latin America’s favorite tourist destinations, and the real estate industry began to boom, a good deal of high-quality new condos appeared along the beachfront and a few blocks back mostly in what has become the north half of downtown.
Most recently, the south half of downtown, or the original town, has seen a transformation; the old working-class homes which have defined much of this original area are being replaced by upscale, modern condos offering the distinct benefit of being walking distance to just about everything – Walmart, 3 similar supermarkets, the beach, and the famous Fifth Avenue shopping and dining area (which first attracted the tourists to the town) would all be within 5-10 minutes of various new condo developments.
The repaving project has been part of this transformation, improving the original roads to offer an atmosphere more suitable to upscale condominium development. The improvement included designated road-side parking areas for those enjoying life in Playa del Carmen with a car, and bike trails. Being able to bike to nearby destinations all year is one of the key attractions of life in Playa del Carmen. In addition to being very flat, with all-year warm weather, the small town atmosphere of downtown still allows residents to feel safe and relaxed riding their bikes.
Those buying condos and other real estate in the south half of downtown can do so with confidence that ongoing improvements will both make life more convenient and improve property value.
