Type A fires include the burning of paper, wood, cloth, and other popular flammable objects. This is the kind that can be easily extinguished and can generally be doused by any type of fire extinguisher.
Type B fires are those that involve the burning of flammable liquids and gases. Examples of this type are fires resulting from gasoline, propane, and other common solvents. This is the type that cannot be put out by another liquid because it can even worsen it. What can put off this kind of fire are dry substances.
Type C fires, on the other hand, consist of electrical fires. This kind of fire must be put out by the proper extinguishers. Live electrical current is quite a challenge to deal with because a lot of materials can conduct electricity. Electrical fires must be dealt with properly to avoid any accident and injury.
Type D fires consist of burning metals. Some metals are combustible and they can only be put off by dry powder extinguisher. This is the kind of fire that can become very dangerous because they spread so easily.
The Type K fires are some of the most common types of fire. A typical example of this is the kitchen fire. A wet chemical extinguisher will be able to put out this kind of fire. If you do not have one, you may use baking soda to cover it. However, this can only be done while the fire is still small.
