A paint roller, according to Wikipedia is a tool that is used to paint large and flat surfaces efficiently. It makes painting an easier job compared to using a paint brush. A typical paint roller is made up of two parts. First is the roller cover or roller sleeve and second is the roller frame. The roller cover is the one that is responsible for absorbing the paint and then it transfers the paint to the surface. The roller frame, on the other hand, is where the roller cover is attached. This is comes with a handle where the painter can hold the roller. The roller frame can be cleaned and can be reused again. When it comes to the roller sleeve, it can also be cleaned and reused but most of the time, it is disposed after use.
Canadian, Norman Breakey was the one who first invented the paint roller in the 1940’s. Unbelievably, he was not able to make profit from his invention because he was not able to produce enough number of paint rollers. After that, the paint roller was subjected to changes in the design by other people and started making it as their own. Richard Croxton Adams was the first person who was able to get the first US patent on "his invention". He claims to have invented the paint roller when he was working one day on his basement workshop. It was also during the 1940’s. He was employed at the Sherwin-Williams Paint Company at those times.
Paint rollers come in a wide variety of types and this is the reason why the consumers are left clueless on what kind they should purchase. The small version of paint rollers are actually designed for radiators while the bigger ones are for gloss paint and emulsion. Like what was mentioned earlier, paint rollers make painting surfaces easier and more efficient. However, it does not mean that you can do away with paint brushes. You will certainly need these paint brushes when you get to the edges and corners of your walls that paint rollers fail to reach.
