So you’ve grabbed the summer internship of your dreams, but it’s in a city that’s not exactly in your backyard. You’re Monday through Friday 9 to 5 schedule is pretty full with work, but now you’re wondering how you’re going to fill your nights and weekends to make this summer one of the best in your life. After all, all work and no play makes a very dull intern. So what better time than the present to enjoy all the perks of an internship in a new city?
And if you’re in Atlanta, Austin or Boston then you’re in luck. Here are some of the top places to hit this summer in those four cities.
Atlanta:
Zoo Atlanta - A visit to the zoo is no longer just for kids. The Zoo Atlanta is a rich, inviting atmosphere for all age groups. There are tons of educational exhibits and interactive displays that encourage the value of wildlife and conservation. Membership to the zoo supports the conservation efforts and allows the zoo to bring in a variety of entertainment and educational activities. Some of the activities in the zoo include rock climbing, live shows, and petting zoos. Other events include Keeper for the Day, and the Wildlife Photography class.
Red Brick Brewing Company - In the midst of those hot summer days in Atlanta, why not take a break and enjoy a nice, cold beer? Better yet, take an afternoon to stop and visit the Red Brick Brewing Company on Defour Hills Road. The company is the oldest craft brewery in Georgia. Brewery tours include a stop at the tasting room to sample some of the regular beers and seasonal favorites, as well as a place to hang out and maybe catch a game or two on the big screen. Mix and mingle during the complimentary tour, and engage in Thursday night trivia, or live music and games on Friday and Saturday. Visitors will get a total of four pours on the tour, and get a keepsake pint glass to take home.
Austin:
Austin Park - The Austin Family Fun Park is an ideal way to blow off some stream in your down time. You can spend the entire day at this indoor/outdoor facility with over 50,000 indoor square feet of space. Visitors can enjoy miniature golf, rock climbing, laser tag, go-kart racing, bumper boats, kiddie rides, a huge video game arcade, multiple party rooms and an all-you-can eat pizza buffet. There are also 22-acres of fully developed surrounding grounds that are perfect for your outdoor adventures.
Austin City Limits - Austin is often noted for its music scene, and growing music festivals. One of the most popular Austin attractions is Austin City Limits. Austin City Limits was initially created with an eye and ear toward original Texas music, featuring artists that created innovative new sounds in everything from western swing and Texas blues to Tejano music, progressive country and rock & roll. The 35-year-old series now features live performances by popular musicians ranging from jazz, folk, pop, R&B, country, and Rock artists. The show generally starts taping its new season in spring and early summer, making it a great stop for Austin summer interns.
Boston:
Boston Harbor Islands - The Boston Harbor Islands contain 34 islands and peninsulas with over 1600 acres to explore. Although within sight of a dynamic and densely populated metropolitan area, they continue to offer the visitor a rare sense of isolation. The islands are a unique example of a cluster of islands tied closely to a lively city. Time spent on the island is an authentic experience that can be different for all groups because of the wide variety of activities available. Visitors can explore historic sites, watch wildlife, hike, kayak, picnic, fish, swim, camp, tour the historic lighthouses, and even engage in special programs on the island that encourage the support of wildlife and nature.
Fenway Park - A visit to Fenway Park is a must for any Boston tourist. The famous tourist location is home to where some of the most famous names in baseball history have played. If you are not a big baseball enthusiast, and don’t enjoy the idea of sitting through nine innings of a baseball game, you can always still arrange for a tour of the facility guided by an official Fenway Park tour guide. There is a Game Day option to tour the batting practice before the big game. There are also event facilities onsite for social gatherings, including luxury suites and roof deck dining.
