Have You Stopped Dreaming?

I was speaking with a group of moms about the importance of dreaming. I was surprised by what the moms shared about how their dream differed not that they were mothers. You see, most of the moms in the room (70 in attendance) said that they no longer dream for themselves but instead they dream for their children. They shared that given their busy schedules, extracurricular activities and the demands of trying to keep the family going that they no longer have time to dream or even think about their own lives. Is this you?
Each week, my goal is to share with you the realities that come with motherhood. None of us received a manual and for the most part many of our mothers never told us what to expect when we become mothers. We have learned mostly through trial and error and sometimes living vicariously through another friend, neighbor or acquaintance.
Dreaming is an essential part of the life process. Imagine that your child wants to play on a baseball team and dreams of being the best pitcher for the team that strikes out all of the players who are up to bat. Or, imagine that you see the cutest outfit and dream of what it would look like on you - 20lbs thinner. Are you getting my drift? When we stop dreaming, we stop setting goals to self-accomplish.
When I decided years ago to create a self-care community for mothers, I dreamed that it would empower mothers to be their personal best. That dream carried me to create more resources for the community, to become a self-care columnist for many magazines, TV and radio outlets as well as to eventually write a book which has become an Amazon bestseller that lead to the creation of Time for mom-Me groups - of which we have 26 in 8 states. You see your dreams are the fuel for your activity and if you stop dreaming you stop creating.
I believe that we are most happy when we are creating or expressing our passion. What is yours?
