The decision to buy an engagement ring, and especially a diamond one, is very crucial. This is because two factors come into play - emotions and finances. With these two considered, the next thing is to obtain a ring that will say it all. Here we consider both the stone and the setting of the diamond ring. The overall goal is definitely to obtain a ring that the woman in your life will love.
In addition to the color, carat, cut, or clarity of a diamond, the setting is also as important. The most preferred settings have to be the solitaire and bezel set engagement rings.
Bezel engagement rings are preferred as they essentially make the stone appear larger than it actually is. For the bezels, the setting is sort of a metal enclosure that completely surrounds the diamond from the culet (base) up to the girdle (outside edge of the diamond). This in itself has two immediate advantages i.e. the stone is fully secured and ultimately it looks larger because the surrounding rim pronounces it. Most bezel engagement rings have white gold or platinum settings. This is so since the setting covers most of the stone and hence only a limited amount of light goes through the stone, effectively affecting the stone’s fire. This is the most significant downside of bezel settings. With light metal settings however, the brilliance of the stone is enhanced.
Solitaire diamond rings have some pronounced disadvantages despite looking very elegant. The stone is held in position by four or six thin prongs. This setting predisposes the ring to a couple of risks. First, the stone is not well protected thus it could get scratched, chipped or broken. The prongs can break off and you may end up losing the stone. Third, the prongs could cause bodily harm through scratches and also at times the prongs may cling to hair, cloth, beddings, and so forth. Jewelers have done much to reduce these risks and bezel engagement rings have indeed become a popular alternative as their designs address all the faults linked to solitaires.
From the structures described we can appreciate that bezel engagement rings are sturdy pieces of jewelry - a factor we would love considering the value of the stone itself. Bezel rings also provide a way to reduce the overall cost. Since not much of the diamond is exposed, we can go for a cheaper stone then make up with a superbly designed high grade platinum or white gold band. You can also have the band’s rim embellished with smaller diamonds or other types of gems. Bezel settings work very well for round and halo-cut diamonds. Just shop around especially on the web and you will discover very many intricate, sleek, and gorgeous styles of bezel engagement rings.
