An area rug is a lifetime investment, perhaps, even an heirloom that will be handed down to the next generation. It's important to stress the importance of keeping it as clean as possible between full carpet cleanings. The best way to assure your area rug stays clean is to keep street shoes off of it. Hard sole shoes are much harder on your rug than bare feet or house slippers and track less dirt onto the carpet.
Area rugs get dirty. Children, pets, high traffic areas, spills, and life itself can lead to the inevitable grunge that is ground into the carpets of many homes. Commercial area rugs cleaners abound but are not often the best option for cleaner carpets. Chemical carpet cleaners can lead to skin irritation, indoor air pollution, and leave a residue on carpets that can actually lead to dirtier area rugs. Simple, everyday products such as baking soda, club soda, and even vinegar can clean a carpet as well as any commercial product.
For simple carpet deodorizing little works as well as baking soda. Baking soda can simply be sprinkled onto the carpet, allowed to sit overnight, and then vacuumed up in the morning. For sphinx area rugs, unused coffee grounds may also be used to freshen carpet and leave a wonderful fragrance behind. Cornstarch mixed with crushed lavender or mint leaves can also make a delightful carpet freshener and room deodorizer.
While it is always best to blot up and treat any spills immediately, stains can and do happen. Club soda or vinegar can be poured directly onto a set-in stain and scrubbed in with a small carpet brush. For dark or stubborn stains, a paste can be made with one cup salt, 0,5 cup vinegar, and one cup boric add (found in the detergent aisle). This paste can be applied to the spot, scrubbed in. and then vacuumed up when dried.
If there is a spill, clean it up immediately. Blot up as much of the liquid as possible using a clean white cloth or paper towel. If the spill is on the corner of the oriental rug a plastic pan can be used to soak the carpet in cold water. If the stain is farther towards the middle of the rug, remove the rug to the garage or utility room and place the carpet over a clean garbage can or bucket running cold water through it. For a final rinse use a mix of 1 cup white vinegar per gallon of water. Once the spot is thoroughly cleaned, place the carpet out flat. When the oriental rug is dry to the touch on top, turn it over and allow it to dry completely on the backside as well.
For a small spot that has been missed and is now dry, use this spot solution after using a wet white cloth to blot the area, 2 cups cold water, teaspoon dish washing soap and cup white vinegar. Club soda may also be used as a cleaning agent. Again use a clean white cloth rubbing in the direction of the nap to work at the stain. Don't use excessive force as scrubbing too hard can harm the carpet pile and may spread the stain. Rinse with cold water.
That’s all. I think hope this article will be very useful for many peoples!
