Looking for new customers, developing new opportunities, can be like the proverbial search for a needle in a haystack. Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is a Website Marketing strategy that can make the job a lot easier, and a lot more cost effective.

Let's face it. Traditional approaches can be pretty ineffective. If you have money to burn, you can, of course, take the unfocused old broadcast shotgun approach: buy yourself a robo-call system, and hire a bunch of people to start making scripted, monotonously presented call after monotonous call, to everyone on that list, regardless of whether they're businesses or housewives, and regardless of whether those who are businesses use your products or not.

Or you print 20,000, 30,000, 50,000 brochures or flyers, all with the same message, of course, and you pay someone to stuff them into envelopes and seal them. Then you buy a mailing list for a particular geographic area; slap the labels on the envelopes and pay for the postage. Then you flood the region whose zip codes you bought, and sit back and hope that the majority of those envelopes don't get thrown into the trash (as you know in advance that they will); you sit and you anxiously wait in the hope that, of those which in fact do get opened, (maybe ten percent of the total?), perhaps one or two percent of those which are opened will find their way into the hands of buyers who actually use products similar to your own, some -- ten, let us say, if you're lucky -- are interested enough in the information you gave to give you a call. With no guarantee, I might add, that any of them will actually turn into buying customers.

Doesn't sound like a very efficient or productive way to do business, now, does it?

If traditional media is a shotgun effect, then Search Engine Marketing is a laser. Search Engine Marketing is based on real customers looking for sources to the specific items or services that you offer; products they need and have every intention of buying.

That's the direct opposite from a company like yours casting its net blindly into the sea in the hope that it will drag from the deep the one or two customers who happen to use the product or service it sells.

Search Engine Marketing is based on a search through the vast data that resides on the Web for a specific item, or a specific service by a customer who already knows that he has a need for that service or product, and is out there looking for a supplier.

You. as a supplier, create an SEM display or pay-per-click ad which prominently features what the customer is looking to find. You carefully incorporate the phrases or words that will appeal to your target market. The online search engine -- Goggle, or Bing, or one of the others searches the Web for content that matches the keyword or phrase of the customer's search, and displays a list of the sites that it finds for the customer to investigate. The customer surveys the results and contacts the one or two suppliers whose content seems most closely to match the thing that he's looking for.

Given all this, content is, for you, the supplier, the key to success. How closely your content matches the customer's need, how effectively it grabs his attention, makes all the difference between getting a customer response and wasting your money. An ad both specific enough to match the customer's need, and supple enough to attract all the customers for your product in spite of the differences that must inevitably exist between one customer and the other, is what The Website Marketing Agency can help you achieve.
