For many centuries, crown moldings have been used to decorate rooms, define spaces and to soften and ease the transition between walls and ceilings. Crown Molding and Ceiling Medallion are always found in High-End homes around the world to decorate and give an elegant look to the interior. Crown moldings are also considered the best way to cover up unsightly corners, and hide wiring and cables. There are many different varieties of crown molding available in different styles and materials which are inspired by age old Architectural periods. Architects and designers consistently use their creativity, imagination and talent to incorporate Crown molding in their designs.
Crown moldings can be used in both traditional and contemporary applications. The size of the space must be considered, along with the depth of the crown molding relief, a smaller size molding may suffice for a higher ceiling if it has heavier and bold relief. The most common material used for crown molding is wood, though there are other varieties of material available in the market, but higher end classical crown are usually either plaster or polyurethane.
Plaster molding is heavy, and requires skilled and expensive installation. Polyurethane moldings are becoming increasingly popular recently over plaster or wood moldings because of its high density material which is best for Crown molding. when using wood molding, several pieces of wood is required to get the same rich profile as in a one piece polyurethane.
Polyurethane crown molding has none of the disadvantages of wood like cracking or splitting, though it can easily be nailed, cut, painted and glued just like wood molding. Polyurethane molding can also be used for exterior applications, as it is rarely affected by moisture, insects or temperature change. Polyurethane crown moldings can easily be molded into many different styles and sizes, which are available in various popular profiles such as Egg & Dart, Acanthus leaf, Floral vine, French scroll, Dentil and many more.
Polyurethane crown molding installation needs less efforts than any another molding material available in the market. Polyurethane is less fragile and flexible and can be installed and fastened simply without any special anchoring or support.
