Sunrooms, also referred in some cases as solariums, are like patio rooms or conservatories where one can enjoy the natural view and landscapes while receiving protection from rain, wind and other harsh conditions. The biggest benefit of a sunroom is that, unlike patios, sunrooms add square footage to your home while still protecting you from the elements.
Function of sunroom
The sunroom has two functions. These are constructed to bring in more sunlight as well as warmth of the sun in damp and colder areas. It is also designed to let your family enjoy scenic views year round. In either case, the sunrooms have glass ceilings, which are transparent or semi-transparent, but rarely frosted. A sunroom also offers home owners a way of extending their house or get extra space so that they can enjoy the weather outside.
Styles of sunrooms
The sunrooms can be of many different types based on the construction. You can have a simple glass patio or sunroom with aluminum exteriors and insulated solid roofs. These glass rooms bring sunlight and elegance into the house and make your home look spacious. One can opt for solid as well as glass roofs with wood, aluminum or vinyl construction. Similarly, there are other varieties of sunrooms that can match your design aesthetic, the needs of your family and the weather conditions in your region.
Saving energy
A sunroom makes your room look far more spacious than it already is. However, the bigger benefit that it offers is the brightness, which will lower your lighting energy consumption, especially on cloudy days when households need their lights. A sunroom is a sophisticated feature of your home that can be used for multiple purposes, like an office, study or leisure room and with the right kind of windows and glass panes, even heating and cooling bills will stay low.
2 and 3 season
A sunroom is usually classified as 2 or 3 season sunroom based on its construction. The 3 season room is not for extreme weather and can protect you only from moderate conditions. On the other hand the 2 season sunrooms with multiple glass panes and insulation will let you use the room at any time of year without being affected by the extremes of weather in any way. Whichever option you choose, both will add square footage to your home, and add a touch of class.
