Bamboo, a sustainable crop, produces a luxurious fabric that is a lot like Rayon. It's surged forward as one of the latest eco fashion trends because of its ability to grow and regrow quickly. From shirts and pants to sheets and towels, you can find a lot of different bamboo or blended products available to buy either online or in your local stores.
Because other plants grown to produce clothing fibers, such as cotton, can sap the soil and cause environmental damage in the way it is grown, bamboo is becoming a more popular choice. The ability to create soft material out of this quick-growing member of the grass family makes it an excellent choice for clothing from shirts to scarves to bamboo pajamas. But it's important to ensure that you know the proper ways to care for your bamboo clothing so that it will last for a while.
When doing laundry, you should always first check the tag inside the garment and follow the manufacturer's washing instructions listed there. If the tag is no longer present, here are a few general guidelines for taking care of your bamboo fabric. You, though, are the one taking care of your clothes. When taking care of them, please use your own common sense.
Since it is a natural fiber, bamboo can shrink when in hot water. If handled roughly when washing, it can also lose its shape. When using a washing machine, set it to use cool water on a gentle cycle. If the garment should be hand washed, be sure you treat it gently when you handle it. Also make sure that any other clothes washed in at the same time are of the same or a similar color, since natural fibers tend to pick up dyes easily.
Drying fabric made from bamboo should be done without any excess heat, to prevent shrinking. If you can, line dry your garment, though you can also use the air dry no-heat setting on your dryer. Also, if you need to iron the garment, don't use high heat on it. Use a cool setting instead, also avoiding steam.
Depending on the way the garment is made or on the different fibers that may be blended with the bamboo, care instructions for your clothes may vary. When you are washing your bamboo pajamas, or any other clothing, make sure the method you use it suitable for your fabric. As long as you take care of them correctly, your clothes will last for a while.
