Concrete may be the hardest material but it is also porous; it is these pores that let the water inside and crack up the surface. Thus, concrete sealing is important for the concrete surfaces as it gives it a longer life. Other than that, concrete sealers also improve the appearance of the surface, making it shiny and lustrous by preserving its textures, colors and patters.
In order to save the concrete from getting affected by the weather or stains, it is coated with sealants time after time. Acrylic concrete sealer is one of the most popular sealants but it makes the softest surface and requires most maintenance so they have been substituted by Epoxy sealants. Acrylic sealers work best on driveways and patios while the epoxy ones are mostly used inside.
Epoxy Concrete Sealer
One of the best methods of treating concrete is by applying Epoxy concrete sealer to the concrete surface. Epoxy concrete sealer is used to protect concrete slabs, floorings and even wood from oils, chemicals, salts and weather. When this concrete sealer is applied on the surface, it forms a sub-surface which is impenetrable. Epoxy sealers are hard and long lasting; they adhere to the concrete and doesn’t let any moisture pass.
However, these are rarely used outside where the Sun can reach them for the reason that they tend to turn yellow when caught by Ultraviolet Rays. Thus, their applications are limited to the inside – for floorings, slabs, countertops and high foot traffic regions. If your garage is not exposed to Sun all day, epoxy sealers will work great. Also, they are remarkably good in repelling water. But you should probably remember to add a slip-resistant substance because the floor gets slippery when it gets wet.
Although Epoxy sealers have many applications, it is best known for its use as preserving concrete. Epoxy concrete sealers with resistance to staining provide safety for decorative interior floors and also, they are easier to maintain. Mostly, the epoxy sealers are made of two components when mixed together. You can role it on the concrete surface after you mix them together and it will dry out in 15-30 minutes. Just remember that the mixture dries out pretty fast once you have poured both the components in the bucket. In addition to the layer of shield it provides, the epoxy sealers can also be used to give a glossy look to surfaces such as countertops and interior floorings.
Concrete sealer is a great way to protect your concrete floors and driveways. Different types of sealants work for different people and you should know which one to use where to enhance the areas. Missing out on applying sealers can reduce the life of the concrete, damage it, form cracks and ruin its appearance. Eventually, all concrete surfaces suffer a little from the usage and hence, maintaining them is of primary importance. It is up to you to preserve your floorings and patios by taking necessary precautions and choosing what the best for the surface is.
