Launched in 2003 by Research in Motion (RIM) the BlackBerry Curve was an entry level smartphone when it first hit the market. Over the years several other smartphones have been released in the market by RIM under the Curve series and it is still in production. The Curve series has always been received warmly by markets all round the globe. With every new series something new was added to the phones and the latest one, the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 series, has been upgraded with the latest BlackBerry OS 6.

If you own a BlackBerry Curve then there might have been times when you have thought of switching over to another carrier, especially the ones offering newer models with 3G and Wi-Fi capabilities. Generally people switch over as they are not satisfied with the current data plans or that they have paid for their phone and do not want to stick with the same carrier. If you are thinking like that then it is time to unlock your BlackBerry. But the question is how to unlock a BlackBerry?

How To Unlock A Blackberry?

There are several options to consider when unlocking a BlackBerry. There are specialized software available that can unlock your phone in minutes, you just have to buy one such program. Another way is to hand over your phone for a few days to a company that specializes in unlocking phones. This service is also paid and you will have to wait for a few days before you can use it with a new carrier. The last solution to the question how to unlock a BlackBerry is doing it yourself.

Unlocking your BlackBerry Curve all by yourself can be quite a hassle especially if you are not technically aware of all the specifications of your phone. So if you are not sure and not patient enough then it is best to take the phone to someone who specializes in unlocking it. To unlock your device you need two different codes – the MEP code and the IMEI number. Getting the IMEI number is easy as you can get it from your device. The MEP code can be got from online applications. Once you have got the codes click on the SETTINGS MENU. Head to OPTIONS. Click on ADVANCED OPTIONS then the SIM CARD. Type MEPD but be careful as the screen will be blank. Then type MEP and press ALT+2; the screen will still be blank. Now you will be prompted to enter the MEP code. Type the code and confirm it. Restart your BlackBerry Curve to use your unlocked phone.
