What's the deal in London

"When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." London may have changed since writer Samuel Johnson wrote this in the 18th century, but the sentiment remains the same. London is the most visited city in the world and one of it’s greatest; the two go hand in hand really. It has its fair share of problems, but it still manages to ooze charm which many other cities try and imitate, few with success.
However, once you have exhausted Lonely Planet’s and Time Out’s to-do lists, how do you go about finding new things to do in this city? Sometimes too much choice is a bad thing; picking what to do in London during your time out of the office or school is like telling a five year old he has to pick just one sweet from the sweet shop. Also, how do you know you want to do something if you don’t even know it exists?
Inspiration often comes from the most unlikely of places: in this case, Groupon. Not familiar with this global deal phenomenon? Groupon buys in bulk so it can sell to you at a discount. Winner! Some London deals are obvious hits, like dinner for two with champagne at a swanky restaurant with 50% off. Others like 75% off home teeth whitening are less immediately buyable, but appeal to people that only buy when the price is right and right now that seems to be more and more of us.
London continues to be one of the most expensive cities in the world. Living costs are almost as high as the One Canada Square building in Canary Wharf. So partaking in a little cheeky London deal action shouldn’t be frowned upon. What’s the catch? For Groupon deals in London to be valid a certain number of people have to buy them. So, it’s not so much as safety in numbers as power in numbers. People purchasing power aided through social networks is changing the way we shop and even the way we live. Not that we want to get all serious on you; we are not positioning for social change, but Groupon and its ilk do offer a new way of seeing, doing and yes, even exploring your own city.
I am a keen traveller and I have travelled around the world but always end up coming back to London. Check out www.groupon.co.uk for cheap London city deals to make your trip that little more enjoyable
