Coffee tables give a finishing touch to a cozy and inviting living room. You need to put some thought when selecting a coffee table. Usually placed in the middle of the room, either in front of the sofa or as a separate table-and-chairs unit, the coffee table may look unassuming at first glance, but is an integral and much-needed part of your home decor.
After all, this is the place you and your friends will gather around. Your dining plates and coffee cups or drinks can be conveniently placed here while you talk. In addition, since they are a part of your living room, coffee tables need to be elegant yet highly functional.
Shapes
Rectangular, low coffee tables are the most popular variety. They are compact yet spacious enough. Rectangular shapes are ideal for homes as well as offices. For an exotic touch, you can also opt for rectangular wooden chests that double up as coffee tables. Round coffee tables give a traditional, cozy ambiance. For more flamboyant home decor, you can choose from coffee tables designed in abstract styles and shapes.
Material
The most commonly used material for a coffee table is wood. You can choose a darker ebony finish for a modern ambiance or mahogany or lighter shades for a cozy look. Coffee tables with glass tops also look very elegant. On the other hand, metal finishes or accents can give an ultra-modern, urban look to the room.
Storage & Utility
Your coffee table can not only be a good-looking addition to the home decor, it can also double up as storage furniture. Racks or shelves under the table surface can hold magazines and newspapers. A closed cabinet under the surface helps storage in a compact and elegant manner. On the other hand, higher or longer coffee tables that come with chairs are perfect for a cozy meal or chat with friends.
A coffee table can truly enhance your home decor. Choose the right finish and shape for your room. Coffee tables give a great accent to the existing living room furniture. You can enhance the overall look of the room with the right table cloth, fresh flowers, and rugs.
