The massive launch of the Apple ipad and ipad 2 Tablets was nothing short of a block buster media blitz. It seems now if a company doesn't get the mega successful initial opening gross sales figures for a fresh product then the plug is in danger of getting pulled before the last person standing in the line to get that product gets one. This is especially true of new Tablets and Smartphone launches.

Take HP's TouchPad Tablet. Just 48 days after it was launched it was mothballed. Or Microsoft's Kin mobile phones, 48 days after going on sale, killed. Cisco shut down the entire Flip Cam division of Pure Digital just one day before the scheduled release of Flip-Live after aquiring the company in 2009.

It's definitely go big or go home.

Some would trace this mentality back to Apple. Every launch of a new Apple product is like a movie premier. A media extravaganza.

Combined with the instant thumbs up thumbs down aspect of the online chat community and if a product doesn't get those quick possitive reviews then it stands a chance of speedy termination.

If the initial launch momentum is stopped then it's nearly impossible to recover.

As if a yearly schedule of new models wasn't hard enough to stay on top of now a product can go from all the rage to landfill so fast that people who went out and bought in to the prerelease prelaunch hype machine are sometimes left holding the bag.

Enter the HP TouchPad again. People were lined up outside their favorite tech store to be the first ones to get their hands on it. When buyers began to use the new Android Tablet they found that lack of apps and poor customer support left them dissappointed and led to many buyers turning into refunders.

Trying to keep an inferior product competitive is expensive and Companies would rather kill it than fight.

Two days after the announcement from HP that it was ending the TouchPad, the Tablet could be bought up to 80% off. The extreme discounts sparked a frenzy of buying that was what HP had hoped to see initially. Prices as low as $100 for the 16 Ghz model could be found at several retailers as well as the HP online store.

Due diligance is all you have when making an informed decision on your next Android Tablet or Smartphone.
