ITIL training is widely popular certification training in the IT industry at the moment. Since IT is something that all businesses use nowadays, it is important to have certain frameworks which can help control quality and service standards in the industry. This is what the aim of this certification is, and it has become very important over the years. There are different versions of ITIL, and version 3 launched recently includes many new things making it different from version 2.
The version 3 of ITIL is aimed towards a Life Cycle approach towards IT. In the second version, more stress was laid on the IT support for businesses in the industry. In the latest version, we see a more service oriented focus, and how businesses can aim to provide high quality services to their customers. This is the reason why some books and material was changed so that service modules could be included.
One of the major changes in version 3 of ITIL is that the number of library books has decreased. Students now have to go through five books instead of seven. In the second version, seven books were included in total and the main topics are: Service Support, Service Delivery, and ICT Infrastructure Management, Planning to Implement Service Management, Application Management, Security Management and Business Perspective. In the latest version 3, some books are eliminated and new ones added in their place such as Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operation and Continual Service Improvement.
Moreover, there have also been changes in the modules in version 3 of ITIL. In version 2, students had to go through 2 modules in the first stage of the training which were Service Delivery and Service Support. In version 3, there are a total of five modules, because three more have been added to the syllabus.
In version 3 of ITIL, some new processes have also been added, although the previous processes are not changed. Therefore, you need to cover additional ones, on top of the ones already present on version 2. This means covering a total of 22 processes in version 3, and the main purpose is to improve knowledge base of students.
If you have already passed version 2 of ITIL, then all you need to do is pass a bridging exam without having to take the whole exam. This information will help you understanding about ITIL and about various versions available.
