There are only two strategies for how to look thinner: disguise and distract. It is similar to the magicians that grace the stages of Las Vegas casinos everyday. They are masters of disguise when they need to create a false bottom on a box for sawing someone in half. The magician is also a creator of distractions when they use a fog machine or a spotlight to distract you from their assistant coming out from behind a curtain.

You too can become a master of illusion to make your body appear thinner and you don’t even need elaborate hand gestures or a cape. For these strategies to work, you do have to take a personal inventory to determine what are your assets and what are your problem areas. For example, you may have a tummy, but also have killer legs. So the trick is to disguise the tummy and distract people to other areas such as your face or your long limbs.

Here is how to be a master illusionist:

Strategy #1: Disguise

A great disguise is like a trick of the eye. Now you see it and now you don’t.

  1. Cover it up. If you hate your flabby arms, don’t wear a tank top. If you have a muffin top, don’t wear low-rise jeans.

  2. Pointy toed boots and shoes make the leg line look longer and thus make you look taller and thinner.

  3. Straight leg pants create one straight line from your hips all the way down to the floor making you appear taller and thinner.

Strategy #2: Distract

A distraction just directs the eye somewhere else. Its like the accomplice that talks to the convenience store owner while his friend shoplifts some Cheetos.

  1. Accessories are the ultimate distracters. A necklace or earrings can pull the attention up to your face. An oversized handbag can distract from a bloated stomach.

  2. Choose a focal point. The eye is drawn to light colors and shiny objects. If you don’t want people looking at what you call your "thunder thighs", wear a light color or shiny top to make that the focal point of the outfit.

  3. Movement also creates a distraction. Dangling earrings and skirts or dresses with a lot of movement can also be a distraction from your problem areas.

You may never headline in Las Vegas, but you now have four magical ways on how to look thinner. Oh yeah, avoid the $9.99 Vegas buffet, now you have five ways on how to look thinner.
