Sometimes it is hard to distinguish between an mp4 player and a HD player for the customer, so how to tell them ?Now there are some tips that maybe make you clear about them .

First you have to know what’s an MP4 and what’s a HD player. An mp4 player is, obviously, a player that plays .mp4 format. MP4 format is a video format, so MP4 player can play video. However, before you buy an mp4 player, you need to check what other video formats your player can play. If you want to download movies from movie sites, you need to at least have .mpg format supported. .avi and .mpeg .wmv (windows media video) files are also suggested. If you want to watch movies by ripping your DVDs, .avi file support is a must. You might occasionally come across mp4 files, but it is not as common. So before you buy an mp4, watch what files it can support. Some mp4 player says they can play video, but ONLY .mp4 videos, then my friend, you are screwed.

Note: all mp4 players can play mp3 audio files.

Now for the HD player, HD stands for Hard Drive, so the player has a hard drive. Ipod Videos have hard drives, so does Creative Zens, Zunes etc.Those players can 100 percent play audio files, .mp3 or WMA. And most of them can play mpg, avi, wmv etc files. The Ipod video can also play video files, but they need a conversion through Itunes to change into an Ipod-supported format. HD players also have photo viewing options, calendar, time etc, kind of like your C Drive in your computer. It is probably the best personnel player you can get, but also very expensive. They cost around at least 100 dollars, but you can get them at some electronic stores online. Now back to the mp4 players, most mp4 players come from china, so that is why they are sold so cheap. There are a few precautions you need to know while buying them:

1,Their brand, if there is no brand, it would be wise to think twice before buying

2,The guarantee or refund policy. DONT get yourself over by thinking its a cheap deal. A cheap deal is a cheap deal only when the product works. A guarantee or a return policy is a must for buying mp4 players or HD players.

3,Check the other features the mp4 has, like FM etc;

4,The video formats they support (not a lot of cheap MP4 players support videos you would normally have or download)check if it supports .mpg, .avi or .wmv files.

5,Check the capacity of your player. A 512 mb player is useless if you want to put video. A 1gb one is also too small if video is concerned.

Most likely a mp4 costs around 40 bucks for 1g, 60 for 2gb and if you can find a 8gb one, its around 100 bucks.

A HD player costs around 200 bucks, but they have at least 30 GB of room, so movies are not problem.

Here are the space taken for each files:

mp3 audio: around 3-5 megabyte (mb)

Music Video: around 30mb to 50 mb

A TV show (30 mins) 200mb

A TV show (60 min) 400mb

A movie (100 min) 700mb-1gb.

As you can see, video takes a lot of space, so take that into consideration.
