Government regulations enforce the organizations to improve their data security and keep the business-critical data and documents reliably preserved for longer periods of time. If you have an ongoing backup system, then you can be assured of continued business operations. Sony’s tape media and drive engineers worked side-by-side to develop an innovative, highly compact and robust AIT tape format. It was engineered to help overcome the rigorous data security needs and tough backup challenges faced by the small & medium sized organizations.
AIT-5 tape is the AIT format’s latest tape version. AIT5 solution satisfies the backup needs of financial organizations, midrange businesses, Windows server applications, small computing systems and complex workgroups at a greater value. With a native capacity of 400 GB, the AIT5 customers can easily manage their massive corporate data and efficiently utilize their data center space.
LTO 3 tape is a close competitor of AIT-5. The AIT5 technology is more superior to LTO3, because it can store greater volume of compressed data. AIT5 tape can retain 1040 GB compressed data, which is much higher than LTO3 ultrium tape’s 800GB capacity. 5.8 times higher recording density enables the Sony SDX5-400C, AIT5 cartridge to hold more amount of data. Tape area of Sony AIT5 cartridge is almost 27% lesser than LTO3 media tape, whereas the tape length is also 40% shorter. That is why the physical size of AIT-5 cartridge is much smaller, thus lesser physical space will be required to store them.
Data write performance of Sony AIT5 drive ranges from 175 to 260 GB per hour (compressed), thus providing super-fast backup speed needed to support the advanced commercial applications. The users can fulfill their specific needs with external and internal AIT-5 drive units that can be easily installed in a variety of I.T environments. Furthermore, the enhanced data transfer rate of 24 Mbps helps reduce the backup time and ensures in-time data availability.
Ultra-fine base film has been introduced in Sony AIT5 cartridge, which reduces noise level and elevates the output signal. In addition, it enables seamless tape movement and precise data tracking. This helps to prolong the tape and drive’s working life. The Sony AIT5 drives’ MTBF rating extends to an unmatched MTBF of 400,000 POH.
Take advantage of backward media compatibility, and utilize the previous generation AIT media tapes as well. Backward write & read capability of AIT5 drives has been extended to the AIT3 tape. You can record and reliably extract data from AIT-3Ex, AIT 4 and AIT3 tapes. This exceptional feature enables cost-effective upgrades and lowers the ownership cost, while ensuring long term investment protection.
Offsite storage is necessary for reliable disaster recovery strategy. Enhanced durability of Sony AIT5 cartridge provides customers the confidence to reliably backup the data and store the tape cartridges off-site. The value conscious customers can confidently invest in AIT5 technology and preserve their massive data assets without increasing the data center space.
