Angry Birds is one of the ‘Super games’ that has captured the imagination of millions, if not billions, around the world. Only recently it was announced that the game has been downloaded more than half a billion times, and that figure does not include the millions who play online; even during work time according to some reports from the US.
Angry Bird’s popularity has a lot to do with the graphics; those birds may be picture postcard robin-types, but they are mean, and dangerous to know because their eggs have been stolen by the green pigs, who are cravenly hiding in different structures in the game. The player has to use a slingshot, to propel those angry feathered creatures into the buildings so that the pigs will die.
The buildings are made from different materials such as ice, wood and stone and as a gamer you have to use your knowledge of basic physics to calculate how best to destroy the structures. You also have to work out the optimal angle to sling the birds so it isn’t simply a game where you click and kill; logic is involved. You pit your wits against the pigs and of course, you can’t let them win. This is what makes the game so compulsive.
There are more than a hundred levels of the game to unlock, and although you can’t unlock the next level until you have successfully killed all the pigs in the level you are playing at, you can go back through the levels you have managed to unlock in order to increase your stars and points. Angry Birds has many add-ons if you actually finish the basic game and these have been designed for promotions, as well as for the average gamer.
Now the people behind the Angry Birds game have capitalized on its popularity and this holiday season you will be able to purchase cuddly Angry Birds, although this may seem an oxymoron, and there are board games as well as numerous other items, all of which are due to go on sale at the world’s first Angry Bird shop to open soon in Helsinki, Finland, home of the Angry Birds.
The Angry Birds game appeals to adults and was launched for them as it was first released in December 2009 for the Apple iOS platform. Since then it has become immensely popular and can be played on mobile devices, as well as PCs, and of course, you can choose to play online at any time, although because of its compulsive nature, you have to ensure that you have enough free time at your disposal to play the game to your heart’s content.
There are also animated films of the creatures, such as the recently released "Ham-o’-een" which was released in the run-up to Halloween. There will probably be a winter holiday animated film too as we are promised many more. Angry Birds is clever, has good graphics and lets you use your skills to complete the game successfully. It really does draw you into the world on the screen, so why not play now that you have finished reading this article?
