Convertible car hire is for the customer who wants a car with all the luxury of a classic but built with no expense sparred. Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin are all classified as Convertible cars.
Convertible cars have been produced by most of the top manufacturers since the 50’s, one was the Mercedes 300 SI Gullwing, it is called this because of the way the doors open up like wings in the air, it could reach up to 135 mph.
Convertible cars were being built by a few British manufacturers, one was Jensen with their interceptor powered by a 4 liter engine. It was a coach built coupe cruising at 90 mph. Convertible cars were also being manufactured by French car companies, theses included the H K 500 Facel Vegas, it was probably the priciest of the French cars during the 1960’s because of its beautiful coachwork.
Convertible cars continued to be built by Maserati with their five liter V 8 Coupe with a top speed of 170 mph. Owners of this car include Aga Khan and the Shah of Persia. Only the extremely rich and famous would have had one, there was then the new Ferrari launched in 1967.
In 1965 Aston Martin brought out the DB6 on to the market, having larger seats and a maximum speed of 150 mph it made it the car to have. Convertible car makers introduced the Lamborghini Espada, it is one of the fastest four seater cars in the world. The Espada is so well engineered it has been called the Rolls Royce of G T cars. Ferrari carried on building smaller V6 and V8 engined Dinos.
This king of Convertible cars makers continued to develop the front engined cars with V 12 power. Porsche then introduced the turbo 930 in 1979 and it reached limits of 160 mph, its superb engine makes it more practiced than most Convertible cars to drive.
The 70s improved again in terms of Convertible cars, the X J S coupe was designed using many of the components of the X J 12 saloon. In the 80’s Aston Martin produced a spectacular wedge shaped saloon; the Lagonda with four full seats and styling that had never been made before, it was the best looking car that Aston Martin had ever produced. Shortly after Rolls Royce brought a competition car out called the Camargue. It became an immediate status symbol as it was crazily expensive.
