Lots of people are already aware what a film forming concrete sealer is. These handy items are applied on concrete to provide protection against moisture so that they don’t damage or stain easily. However, not everyone is aware of the different types of concrete sealers and therefore have no idea what to purchase should they need it in their homes. That being said, following are some different forms of protection also known as surface or topical sealers.
Polyurethane
Polyurethane usually comes in water-based form and is pretty versatile in its uses. It can be applied on new concrete or those that are already damaged to prolong their use. What’s great about them is that they are not only odorless but also doesn’t produce that unattractive yellowish color overtime. It can also protect concrete from abrasions and chemical spills, therefore making it an all around concrete sealer that could protect most structures. The final touch is a bit glossy which makes them attractive to look at.
Acrylic
Lots of people who know what a film forming concrete sealer is, usually utilize acrylic for their topical sealer needs. The product is ideal for both interior and exterior concrete and is capable of resisting ultraviolet rays. Like Polyurethane, they also provide excellent protection against various external factors like harsh weather or salt used for removing ice on the surface. When dried, it looks attractive with its glossy exterior that doesn’t fade to yellow overtime. Acrylic is friendly for both painted and bare concrete and usually lasts for a long period of time before the need for reapplication. The application process itself is incredibly easy and necessitates very little work.
Penetrating
Many people today are also shifting to penetrating sealers due to their advantages. Those who know what is a film forming sealer is and what it is meant for, usually favor the fact that penetrating is capable of going below the surface. Simply put, it penetrates a deeper level of the concrete and therefore facilitates bonding of concrete when it starts to deteriorate. It’s also discreet enough not to be too obvious and does not make the surface shine. Still, it provides protection and even helps with de-icing.
All in all, knowing what is a film forming concrete sealer and knowing exactly benefits they provide is a good idea prior to using one. When choosing from those mentioned above, it is recommended that homeowners first determine exactly what they want with their concrete sealers and evaluating each one before deciding.
