The main component in a home video surveillance system is the monitor. Monitors feed video that's captured by the camera's. The average monitor is black and has a higher resolution than a normal TV. A must have for video surveillance systems is coaxial cables. These cables are what transfers the camera's video to the monitors. Coaxial cables comes in all sizes. Most home video surveillance systems come with these cables. If you need more, most local electronics stores carry them too.
Another vital component to home video surveillance systems are switchers. Switchers makes it possible for you to run multiple camera feeds to just one monitor. Usually, the home surveillance system is setup to switch through feeds unless it detects any kind of movement from a camera.
Some video surveillance systems comes with VCR's. The VCR will record any camera you program it to. This is great if you are away from home a lot. If a break in happens, you will have it recorded. These tapes that are recorded can be used in court as evidence.
