A vacation to Cuzco, Peru is a once in a lifetime experience, but what can you do when you're in this South American city? From food you must try, to cultural experiences at the city's best-known landmarks, consider adding the following places to your travel itineraries. You'll leave Cuzco with memories that you'll remember for the rest of your life that will leave you itching to research flights so you can return.
Where To Eat In Cuzco
One of the best things of travelling is experiencing the local food. If you're looking to have a uniquely Peruvian meal, head to one of the city's locally owned restaurants. One local favorite is MAP Café. MAP Café is located in a museum, which means guests can dine among artwork. MAP Café can be on the pricy side and sometimes offers a prix fixe menu so call before you travel to the restaurant if you're looking to order off the menu instead.
Another favorite of those who travel to the city is the Inka Grill. Here, guests can find local delights, such as alpaca or guinea pig, which can seem strange to people from other countries. However, the food is completely Peruvian and provides guests with an experience they can't replicate anywhere else.
Things To Do
Many thrill seekers travel to Cuzco because it's known for its whitewater rafting. It's possible to find companies that offer visitors whitewater rafting trips throughout the entire year and visitors can choose from day trips to overnight camping trips that allow visitors to camp out on along the rivers. Many whitewater rafting tours also take travelers past Incan ruins and other breathtaking scenery.
If you're not up for the excitement that a whitewater rafting trip offers, consider taking it easy and visiting one of Cuzco's many museums. One of the most popular museums is the Museo Inka. Here you'll see more than 10,000 exhibits, including mummies and ancient Incan art. Another favorite is the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, which features modern art by local artists.
Where To Stay
If you're looking to travel on a budget (or want to save your money for amazing experiences), consider staying at the Ninos Hotel. Here visitors can stay for just $22 USD a night, although that low rate means you'll be sharing a bathroom with other guests. If you're looking for a private bathroom, your room will cost you $48 USD. However, that's not the entire draw of the Ninos Hotel. The hotel actually spends all its profits on child charities, meaning guests can feel great about staying there.
If a more upscale hotel is what you're looking for, consider the Hotel Casa Cartagena & Spa. The rooms are modern and the spa has a hydro massage pool and separate treatment areas for men and women. Visitors can stay in a suite for around $300 USD a night.
If you're looking for a trip you'll never forget, travel to Cuzco. Here you'll find amazing experiences, world class meals and hotels to fit every budget. Research flights and you might be surprised at how affordable a trip to Peru can be.
