PAD is short for Portable Application Description. It's a standard medium created by the Association of Software Professionals. To create and submit PAD files is simply a matter of writing descriptions for your software product of varying lengths. You can then use submitpad.org to submit PAD files to various software download sites. Submitting your PAD files is an easy and efficient way to get more exposure for your software marketing campaign and easily reach the masses via an extensive network of download sites. First you need to download a PAD editor which you can use to create your product description. Once you've done this, you will then be ready to submit it with submitpad.org along with your software.

The first step is to create a PAD file for your product. This is simply a matter of downloading a PAD editor and then filling in the various sections in the program to describe your product. The PAD editor is easy to use, thanks to the fact that each field is described in detail along with hints and guidelines for creating a suitable application description. When you have created your PAD, you will then need to use the PAD editor to generate a PAD XML file. This is then uploaded to your web server. It will need to be uploaded to a public location on your website so that download sites will be able to access it and then place it on their site. The "Upload" button in PADManager makes it easy to do this just with a few clicks.

You can validate your PAD file to ensure that it is ready for submitting to the download sites. Submitpad.org also explains how to use the utility, PAD Validator, to validate your PAD file. When you validate your PAD file, you'll be provided with a list of issues which you need to fix, if indeed there are any. When a problem with your PAD file is detected, you can simply double-click on the icon denoting the issue and you'll be provided with some user-friendly details on how to fix the problem. If you need to fix any issues or update your PAD file, you can then easily upload it again. Once you've done this, you're ready to go. You can also use the database of download sites at padsites.org. This is constantly updated and supported by an extensive and ever-growing community of software vendors.

PAD files are ideal since there is no need for them to be hosted on the same site as the one where the application is hosted. You can host your PAD file separately on any domain on the Internet, provided that the file is accessible to the public so that the download sites can display the relevant descriptions. Using the services provided by submitpad.org, you can also automatically submit PAD files to all download sites supported, of which there are an ever-increasing number. Currently, almost half of download sites support the PAD format, but support is always increasing. RoboSoft's solutions also allow you to convert PAD files to support otherwise unsupported sites.
