Most iPhone users wait with bated breath for the release of the newest iOS update, simply because each release boasts exciting features that further enhance the user experience. However, frustration sets in when they run into a multitude of problems while trying to install a new update.

You may have been in a similar situation. The installation never completes and iTunes prompts the occurrence of an error which you cannot circumvent despite many attempts.

Before installing the new iOS update, it is important to ensure that your software programmes are updated. Your iTunes should be the latest version; if it is not, simply click on the ‘Check for Updates’ button and follow through with the installation. Make certain also that your operating system is up to date.

Sometimes security settings can be the source of the problem as well. Check that your security software, firewalls and router settings are updated and properly configured.

To ensure zero interference, disconnect all other USB devices, leaving only your keyboard and mouse connected. Then connect your iPhone to your computer with a genuine Apple 30-pin Dock Connector.

Once you have done the above-mentioned steps, reboot your computer and try the installation again. If the installation still fails to complete, what you can do is to set up a new administrator user account or use another computer to run the update.

An interrupted installation can cause your mobile device to malfunction, since the iOS update was not properly installed. One common symptom is that you are not able to access your apps. An easy solution to this is to restore your iPhone.

To do this, connect your device and launch iTunes — again, it must be the latest version. Sync your device with iTunes so that all your applications and media files are transferred. Once the syncing process is completed, select the Summary tab and click on the Restore button. When prompted, be sure to back up your settings if you have not done so previously. When ready, you can begin the restoration process.
