Your laptop won't turn on and you're not quite convinced why. Here we will look into several of the causes why this may occur and what you can do to treat and prevent this.
Battery or Charger?
The opening factor to reckon out is if your charger or battery is at fault.
-How to repair a laptop battery fault
If your machine will only turn on whilst plugged in it follows that your battery is likely at fault. Most manufacturers offer a twelve month warranty on battery replacements, but various makers - such as Sony - will simply offer three months warranty. You will need to give a call the seller or producer to validate this.
In a few cases, the manufacturer can announce a recall of battery models bought with their laptops. Always confirm the manufacturers web page for any information about this.
You can make longer the life of your battery by leaving it discharge completely prior to recharging and if you plan to leave your laptop plugged in for an extended period, then it is a high-quality concept to disconnect the battery altogether.
- Faulty charger (PSU - Power Supply)
If your charger is faulty, at that time your notebook will consume the rest of it's battery volume and switch off. The computer may still switch on momentarily (1 or 2 seconds) and next turn itself off.
Sooner than charger failure, you can also spot a note that states 'plugged in, not charging'. This message will be displayed on the task bar along with the icons next to the system time. All manufacturers offer a full 12 month warranty on charging units.
Other reasons of power failure
Using the information above, you should be capable to figure out if the battery or the charger is at fault.
If not any of these seem probable, then it could be a problem with one of the following:
-
Mainboard
-
Power cable (The cable that links to the charger)
-
AC Port (Where the charger connects to the notebook )
-
Charging circuitry in the laptop (Occasionally occurs on laptops creating the 'Plugged in - Not Charging' error note)
Each and every one of these issues - with exception to the power cable - would be covered by makers guarantee.
A possible fix - The 'ATX' reset
In addition to replacing the faulty part, there is very little to do regarding the problem. There is however a incredibly helpful technique used for restoring power in some cases.
1.Disconnect the power cable.
2.Disconnect the battery (This will unclip from underneath the laptop).
3.Hold in the power button for 20 seconds (Leave it unplugged!)
4.Reconnect the charger ONLY.
5.Attempt to power on.
I would advise that you always try this test before calling the vendor or manufacturer. Regardless of the statement it appears a little odd, in my experience, it will be successful about 50% of the time.
Hopefully this has assisted a little into diagnosing your difficulty or in a number of cases fixing it.
