Kindle Formats - The Review About Kindle Formats

Ebook uses a lot of formats, but not all formats are supported by the Kindle.

Kindle only supports some format only. Range of formats supported by the Kindle is divided into two kinds of native and conversion.

Native format is the ebook format is fully supported by the Kindle as AZW, MOBI, PRC, TXT, PDF.

While the format is the format conversions that may appear on the Kindle, but must go through the conversion such as HTML, DOC, Graphics file formats.

Basically most of EPUB eBook format but the Kindle does not support the EPUB format. Does that mean the user can not read ebook with EPUB format through a Kindle?

The answer is not like that, user can read the ebook with EPUB format, but must go through conversion. Conversion is done using software called CALIBRE.

CALIBRE is a free ebook management program that works to convert EPUB or other format is not supported by the Kindle that can be displayed on the Kindle.

Formatting steps

A. Download Calibre on your computer

  1. Install Calibre

  2. Choose the ebook file to be converted

  3. Click ADD

  4. Click Send to Device

  5. Then there is the prompt box, choose Yes

  6. If the signature on the bottom right shows the number zero, then you succeed.

What formats does the Kindle support

The first generation Kindle supports MOBI, PRC, TXT, TPZ, AZW.

Kindle 2 supports PDF, AZW, AAX.

3 supports AZW Kindle, PDF, TXT, MOBI, PRC, DOC, HTML.

Fire supports AZW Kindle, PDF, TXT, MOBI, PRC, DOC.

AZW Kindle DX supports PDF, TXT, MOBI, PRC.

For the fourth-generation Kindle Kindle Kindle Kindle Touch supported format (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively and file. HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP is that it can be used through the conversion. Touch and Touch 3G version is also capable of playing Audible (Audible Enhanced (AA, AAX)) and files.

Amazon also offers email-based service to convert JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP graphics to AZW. Amazon will also convert HTML pages and Microsoft Word (DOC) documents via the same mechanism-based email, which will send a Kindle-formatted file to the device over the 3G at $ 0.15 per MB or via the free WiFi. However, the conversion of free WiFi is not available to customers outside the United States and Britain.
