The majority of those living in the United Kingdom are seeking the best way to best reduce their carbon footprint. Starting by simply taking a bag for life everywhere they go, and participating with council recycling more so. But there are more efficient ways to be energy efficient and help reduce carbon emissions. Although not all are obtainable for the home, but as technology advances it can be expected to see similar techniques being adopted and being made available that the average consumer can afford.
But, our reliance on electricity and fossil fuels will no doubt continue for the foreseeable future. Even though the advances in greener technologies are being ventured. With investments increasing and as a country becoming much more aware, it hopefully wont be long until these advancements can help everyone make a difference.
Here is just a short list of the alternative power generation sources that are available:
Bio Diesel
Generators, ranging from portable to the larger industrial size, currently run on diesel. The majority of these can be made to run on biofuel with very little changes. Generators are a key resource for many living within the Unite Kingdom, therefore a great potential to reduce emissions and to protect the environment.
Also known as bio diesel, this greener alternative is a magnificent resource that is not being utilised to its fullest. For example, bio fuel is much safer to handle and control. It is biodegradable, therefore any spillages are not an issue. Not forgetting that the pollutants are gone.
Unfortunately, the infrastructure currently in place is not the best. As demand increases this should improve as a result.
Wind Power
Wind power is another renewable resource that can be used to a much greater extent that is currently being used.
Most people have seen wind turbines, which are used to take advantage of wind currents. Each turbine contains a generator that produces an electric current. When enough are use within a certain area, they are known as wind farms and can produce enough electricity to supply directly to the grid. Many small communities have taken advantage of the available wind power and are using these turbines to help power their community.
With the aesthetics playing a large part in their difficulty to be widely accepted throughout the UK. The potential to build a vast number of offshore wind farms is becoming a reality.
The biggest advantages of using wind power to help replace traditional means of power generation is that the turbines require no fuel to operate and there is zero emissions of any kind.
A large number of homes are using small scale wind power turbines to power their home. If the goal is to reduce their carbon footprint or help become self-sufficient, then it is an area can be taken advantage of.
Solar Power
The final renewable power generation alternative, but not limited to, is solar power. This technology has exists for many years now. The process involves turning direct sunlight into electric current and can be used to improve the home at little cost.
Many homes that are isolated and not connected directly to the grid can benefit a lot from this type of power.
Many green incentives are provided by a large number of councils, cities and states, to help increase the up-take and improve the carbon footprint. From simply considering a bio diesel generator rental or installing solar panels onto your home. Either can be considered a step forward for the country and world as a whole.
