A Power Flush is a spring clean for your central heating system, and has been designed to keep it in an excellent working condition. A mixture of chemicals and water is circulated through the radiators and pipes to clear up all the debris that builds up with time. In power flushing, lime scale deposits, sludge and pieces of corroded metals are gently lifted from the interior areas of your central heating system and are flushed out using flow of water and chemicals. However, experts in Ireland do not use any pressure for getting the desired results because excessive pressure can damage the joints and components of the heating system.
Power flush in Ireland is mostly recommended as a sort of precautionary measure for preventing your boiler from getting permanently damaged due to the excessive debris build up. It also enhances the efficiency of your central heating system, and it consumes less energy. If you are not sure whether your system needs it or not, you can look for some clues in the machine. If you hear banging or knocking noises from your boiler when it’s working hard, or if some of the radiators need frequent bleeding or have cold spots, then heating power flush is the best cure.
A trained plumber with years of hands on experience in power flushing may carry out the service on your system using mixture of cleaning agents, and fresh water. The first and most crucial step would be to loosen the debris in the system by flushing it out using fast flowing water mixed with cleaning agents. This is further helped by creating turbulence using flow reversal mechanism. Once all sludgy bits have been successfully dislodged, they are flushed out of the system using clean water. Once heating power flush is complete, you will get totally fresh water from your system. There won’t be any mess and the entire job is quite straightforward and inexpensive.
As with other types of maintenance, power flushing your central heating system on regular basis can help in prolonging the life of your boiler. It also helps in bringing down the heating costs. Areas with hard water are specifically prone to speedy build up of lime scale and sludge in the boiler and heat exchanger which can significantly reduce the efficiency of the entire system. If you plan to install a new boiler on your old central heating system, you should first clean the radiators and pipes. This will not only protect the boiler from old sludge and debris, but will also increase the efficiency of the system. Mostly, it is also an important requirement of the manufacturer’s warranty.
However, power flush won’t solve each and every problem in your central heating system. For extremely corroded and neglected systems, these kinds of techniques may be too late. In some cases, there may be some deposits in the system even after flush has been carried out, and may break loose at a later date. Most of the central heating systems have limited lifespan, but flushing may help you in increasing its efficiency and prolonging its lifespan by few more years.
