As they age, bathrooms can start to look tired and worn out. Thorough cleaning can only do so much while renovation can be very expensive. Fortunately, there are plenty of things that can spice up a bathroom without costing a fortune. All that's really needed is some creativity, a little bit of effort, a few bright curtain ideas, and the drive to make it all happen.
Fabrics
Start the bathroom makeover by making a new shower curtain. See if you have any large pieces of unused cotton or polyester around the house. They can also be bought cheaply at a fabric shop. Choose your favorite color and take a chance on eye-catching patterns. Check out newer fabrics that are mold and mildew resistant as they would fit perfectly in the bathroom environment.
The typical shower curtain is 72 inches in length on each side. You can try to follow this standard or, better yet, use completely different dimensions with the actual as the guide. Make it run longer for added drama or have it go wider to cover more space. It is totally up to you and that is the beauty of this project. Everything can be specially designed to fit your particular needs.
People who are used to making clothes and curtains can let their imagination fly. Adding flourishes will probably easy for them. The general population, although not as experienced in this regard, can still create wonderful pieces and stitch up fabric borders for visual interest.
Ribbons
Ribbons are a breeze to make. If used effectively, they can enhance the character of the shower curtain without much effort. Start by taking measurements the edges of the curtain to mark the border of the ribbon. The size may differ but it is recommended to use eight inches as a base.
You will need straight pins at this point to hold everything in place. They will have to be pinned at regular intervals to ensure that the square does not move from its spot. Add a ribbon at the border and, again, make use of the pins to hold it into place. A drafting triangle will be handy in cutting angled edges.
Strong fabric glue should be administered at vital points to reinforce the pins. Use it along the edges and apply pressure to both sides. Be careful so that the line is kept straight.
Tie
There are quite a few options for the top of the curtain. How it will hang from the rod is all up to you. Grommets are often employed and you can choose from metal or plastic. Just cut up equally spaced holes and snap these into place. Another option is to use ties and button tabs.
It will be necessary to make some stitches for the tabs on either side. This is can be done in a variety of ways so some research on the different patterns and take the path that looks the most comfortable or the most interesting.
These shower curtain ideas can be implemented at little cost. Try them now.
