The current trend towards having an outdoor kitchen has certainly risen in recent years. In fact, outdoor kitchen appliances are now easier to install and more affordable than ever, allowing more families to take advantage of great options for creating their own outdoor kitchen. These kitchens provide a great opportunity for entertaining, especially when your kitchen includes an outdoor refrigerator.
If you are thinking about an outdoor kitchen for your home, these tips can help you get started.
Start with the Right Grill
The grill is generally the focus of an outdoor kitchen. The type of grill you choose will depend on the layout of your kitchen. If your outdoor kitchen plans include food prep areas, you will probably want a built-in grill of high quality. These grills are usually available in both liquid propane, as well as natural gas varieties and often include accessories such as warming trays and rotisseries. You can also choose a prefab island, such as the 60" Pre-Fab Stack Stone Grill Island offered by American Outdoor if you like the look of a grill that is built-in, but don't want the work of building it yourself. If you prefer a portable grill, there are many high quality grill islands that are on wheels for easy moving. Regardless of which style of a grill you prefer, it is important to choose a BBQ grill cover that is the right size to protect it and keep it looking great.
Keeping it Cool
An outdoor refrigerator will be an excellent addition to your outdoor kitchen. You can keep drinks ice cold, veggies cool and crisp and raw meat and fish fresh. You can choose a refrigerator cart or a built in refrigerator, but the cart design can also double as a convenient bar and is easy to wheel around your yard or deck, just like the drink cart on an airplane. If you have a tight budget, you can even choose a small refrigerator to place in a discrete location, these refrigerators are typically very affordable. Of course, if you are the artistic type, you can paint your refrigerator a bright lively color or just cover it with a colorful cloth and it can double as a convenient work station or table in your outdoor kitchen.
Keep Your Bar Stocked
An excellent addition to any outdoor kitchen space is a well stocked bar. Whether you want sodas for the kids or you will be mixing margaritas or adult beverages for the adults, a bar can definitely add to the fun. Many outdoor kitchens will also have a liquor cabinet or wine rack, but if you want something a little less formal, you can find a variety of portable bars with a wide range of design styles.
Patio Furniture is an Important Aspect of Your Outdoor Space
If you don't have comfortable furniture, there is really no reason to create the ideal outdoor dining area. You will certainly want comfortable seating for your guests to relax and the cheap plastic chairs are just not going to meet your needs. Instead, consider investing in quality outdoor tables and chairs. If your budget permits, you can even splurge on beautiful outdoor love seats or sofas, complete with cushions that are water resistant and easy to maintain. Of course, once you invest in quality patio furniture, be sure to purchase protective covers to keep your furniture in excellent condition. If you will be using your outdoor space at night, an outdoor fire pit can be a wonderful addition to your space. It will provide warmth and charm, as well as serve as a great focal point for your outdoor gatherings.
