If you want to see the Grand Canyon, you should take an airplane tour from Las Vegas. These tours leave once a day for the South Rim and four times a day for the landing tours at the West Rim and even more often for air-only tours to the West Rim.
Short Flights
Airplane rides are the quickest way to get to the Grand Canyon. It only takes about 20 minutes for planes to arrive at the West Rim. The South Rim is twice as far so the flight there takes around 45 minutes. That is so much faster than taking a bus tour because it takes 5 ? hours to drive to the South Rim from Las Vegas and 2 ? hours to drive to the West Rim. The Grand Canyon air flights only last about an hour or so but they offer awesome views and let you see a great deal of the region. And since the airplane tours are relaxing and fun, you won't be too worn out to enjoy a night out in Vegas when you get back. You'll probably agree an airplane tour is the ideal way to experience the great national treasure.
Size Of The Canyon
The Grand Canyon is amazingly huge at 277 miles in length and 18 miles wide, plus it is a mile deep. The Grand Canyon National Park encompasses over one million acres and most of it is pristine wilderness filled with an amazing diversity of plants and animals that draw the interest of researchers all over the world.
The mighty Colorado River cut the canyon out of the earth and the river still meanders through the canyon today. You will be able to see it from the air and from various lookouts at the rims.
Types of Airplane Tours
There are two kinds of airplane tours, those that stay in the air and those that land at the canyon. The air-only flights are great when you are short on time because you can visit the Grand Canyon and see the sights in a short amount of time. That being said, the landing tours are my favorites, and I highly recommend them. Why is that?Well, you'll get a much more comprehensive experience that way. West Rim landing tours can come with Grand Canyon Skywalk tickets and/or helicopter rides that land on the canyon floor.
Many people prefer to take the air tour out of Las Vegas that flies to the South Rim instead. These usually come with an added bus tour inside the park but you can also add on a chopper flight over the canyon too. These helicopter flights are a truly special experience.
The pilots on these tours have a lot of experience and are fully licensed, and the airplanes are kept well serviced. The windows used in these sightseeing aircraft are designed for scenic views no matter where you sit. In addition, the tours are narrated in several languages so you'll know what is going on around you.
Book Ahead
Las Vegas is the primary starting point for Grand Canyon tours so you need to get your seats as early as you can. If you wait until you get to Vegas, the tour you want will probably be sold out. Booking your tour one or two weeks ahead of time is best.
Enjoy The View!
Make sure you're prepared before you leave for Las Vegas. Bring your booking confirmation email, the credit card you used to book your tour, and the clothing you'll need for your trip. You'll also want to charge up your cell phone or digital camera.
